Each year the Sertoma Club of Nashville hosts the Annual Freedom Essay Contest. The contest allows high school students to construct an essay on a given topic and have a chance to win one of four monetary prizes based on the quality and information in their entered essay.

This year’s deadline for the 55th Annual Freedom Essay Contest is approaching fast so be sure to enter your essay today.  This year, the essay topic is as follows:

“Should the provisions of our founding documents, i.e., the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the Declaration of Independence, be applied to immigration in cases where the person has entered our country illegally?  If so, how?”

Who is Eligible?

Those who are eligible for the 55th Annual Freedom Essay Contest must meet the following requirements:

  • All 12th grade high school students (or home school equivalent) in Davidson, Cheatham, Wilson, Robertson, Rutherford, Sumner, and Williamson Counties who intend to attend an accredited institution of higher learning beginning in 2015.
  • The sons and daughters of Sertoma Club members are not eligible to enter and/or win the 55th Annual Freedom Essay Contest and respective prizes.

What is the Award?

Students who provide their essays to the Sertoma Club of Nashville can win one of the following prizes, if their individual essay is deemed an award winner (based solely on the essay content) by our judges.

The first place winner will receive one (1) $3000 scholarship applied to their higher institution of choice. Three (3) runner-ups will each receive one (1) scholarship for the amount of $2000.
